When creative thinking meets a challenge, change is born. After Marcus Thompson was left paraplegic from a skiing accident, close friend and engineer Kevin Halsall came up with a bright idea to help out. Utilizing the technology of the two-wheeled, self-balancing, and battery-powered Segway, Kevin Halsall created a speedy wheelchair that is entirely hands-free. This creation, ‘The Ogo’, as Kevin calls it, will change the way handicapped individuals engage with the world. In reflection of his creation, Kevin stated, “The more I get immersed into the world of disabilities the more I see how under-catered it is”.
The Ogo’s Key Features:
- Mobility at speeds up to 12 mph
- Hands-Free design
- Seat controls maintain balance and boost core strength
- All-terrain wheel capabilities
As of now, Kevin’s innovation is still a prototype and is currently in the process of being made available for purchase. The prototype can travel quickly and is able to support millimeter stop and turning precision. The price range is yet to be determined, with estimates in the range of $10,000 – $20,000. Our admiration and applause goes out to individuals like Kevin who use their talents to enhance the lives and interactions of individuals with handicaps and disabilities. We look forward to hearing more about this product.
